Baseline Situation & Challenges

For shipping operators, the logistics sector and authorities, up-to-date and easily accessible data on the condition of the waterway are essential for transport decisions, the execution of transports and increasing transport safety.
The Austrian inland navigation information services DoRIS (Donau River Information Services) went into operation in 2006 and now comprise a wide range of services.
In recent years, the focus has been increasingly on linking existing RIS services.
The contribution of Austrian experience in international standardisation committees and the deepening of cooperation with European RIS operators is crucial in this context.
One of the most important future challenges is to integrate inland navigation into multimodal logistics chains through digital networking with other modes of transport. cost-efficiency.
