SYNERGETICS – Synergies for Green Transformation of Inland and Coastal Shipping
Inland and coastal shipping face great challenges with respect to a significant reduction of greenhouse-gas and air-pollutant emissions resulting from the requirements stipulated in the European Green Deal and the Taxonomy Regulation as well as the fact that improved environmental performance has become a feature of ever-increasing importance to the sector in order to remain competitive. SYNERGETICS is a Horizon Europe Innovation Action, a particularly application-oriented collaborative project looking at ways to reduce emissions in inland and coastal shipping through retrofit solutions.
LIFE Boat 4 Sturgeon
The overall objective of this LIFE project is to help save the four remaining Danube sturgeon species from extinction: the Sterlet, the Waxdick, the Sternhausen and the Hausen.
Integrated River Engineering Project on the Danube East of Vienna – Catalogue of Measures
On the free-flowing Danube east of Vienna, hydraulic engineering measures are being implemented to stabilise the falling water levels, preserve unique habitats in the Danube floodplains and align the waterway infrastructure with the requirements of safe and economic Danube navigation. In order to achieve these goals, maintenance activities are carried out on an ongoing basis and hydraulic engineering optimisation projects are implemented.

viadonau offers support for a total of 4 "RIS Weeks" within the framework of the project, during which the RIS expert groups carry out the further development and maintenance of the RIS standards every six months. The support services include the administrative relief of the chairpersons of the RIS expert groups as well as the organisational and financial support of the local organiser of the RIS expert group.

Based on the experience with the development and implementation of RIS in Europe, viadonau supports the American RIS operator, the US Army Corps of Engineers. Primarily, the experiences of the last 15 years will be transferred to the framework conditions in the USA and content-related proposals for the expansion of RIS services on the American inland waterways will be formulated. The project is the successor of the RIS USA project, which was aimed at supporting the introduction of RIS in the USA.

The main focus of this project has been on the inspection of the transport and traffic management in inland waterway corridors. This corridor approach led to new findings on the optimisation and interoperability of River Information Services (RIS) and the underlying national infrastructures (e.g. DoRIS in Austria). Action plans for the optimised use of RIS in inland waterway corridors were elaborated for the period 2016 - 2020.

PLATINA 2 (2013 - 2016) was a European action to implement the NAIADES II Action Programme on Quality Improvement in Inland Navigation in a coordinated way.

In the course of the Analysis of Navigability project, viadonau statistically analysed long-term gauge and flow data and processed them for various user groups from industry and the logistics sector.

The bilateral project between the Czech Republic and Austria is dedicated to the elaboration of near-natural flood protection measures in the area of the confluence of the rivers March and Thaya as well as the preparation of a renaturation concept for the Lower Thaya.

Inland ENC's are digital maps for inland waterway transportation. The system runs on vector data, which allows detailed display of data and ensures steady and clearly represented information.

The working aid is a guideline for a standardised procedure from gathering basic data to the categorisation of flood protection dams and the presentation of priorities for rehabilitation measures.
