In the Altenwörth and Greifenstein reservoirs, damaged and necessary stairways and gauges are rehabilitated while damaged and no longer necessary stairways and gauges are deconstructed. This is being done on the basis of an internally and externally coordinated concept and a requirements survey.

News and project status
A requirements analysis was carried out and the construction contract was awarded to STRABAG AG. Construction will follow from June onwards and should be completed in autumn. No major obstruction of the Danube bicycle route is expected during construction, with the exception in the area of the Greifenstein power plant, tailwater left bank. A diversion and information concept has been drawn up for this purpose. In autumn 2024, 15 staircases were already removed and replaced with corresponding prefabricated parts. The replacement of a further 15 or so stairways is planned for 2025. This will improve the landside waterway infrastructure in the long term.
The activity makes a substantial contribution to the implementation of measure 01. Proactively implement customer-oriented waterway management of the Action Programme for the Danube 2022 and the workpackage 02. of the Action Programm for the Danbue 2030.
