The core of the lock revision strategy is to carry out the planned revisions at extended intervals. For this purpose, each lock chamber is subjected to an intermediate inspection every 2 years to check the technical condition for safe operation. If necessary, unscheduled repairs or revisions can be arranged. The aim is to achieve fewer and shorter revision times while maintaining at least the same level of reliability. After the new lock revision strategy was contractually agreed in August 2018, the winter of 2019/2020 was the first time that lock chambers for which there had previously been interim inspections were under revision. The significance of the interim inspections is currently being evaluated together with the Supreme Navigation Authority (OSB) and Verbund Hydro Power AG, and adjustments to the scope and method will be made if necessary.
