REWWay is the result of a cooperation between Logistikum Steyr and viadonau. The aim of the project is to promote the topic of logistics in inland waterways in national and international research and educational facilities. In fact, the main focus is to train logisticians with knowledge of eco-friendly inland navigation and its connection to other modes of transport.

At the beginning national and international market research, including workshops and interviews, was conducted. As a result, requirements for the target group i.e. concerning subjects, didactical methods etc. were defined. Based on this, target group specific materials were generated, which are now available free of charge on our information platform. This services includes for example case studies, excursions, lecture notes, exercises, short films or guest lectures. The services are available free under www.rewway.at/en

The project was extended, due to its enormous success. The cooperation between viadonau and the Logistikum Steyr has been prolonged until 2018. Many project extensions were taken due to the successful collaboration. Thus, the current project "REWWay 2022" (2019-2022) was created to establish another foundation for better inland waterway transport.

News and project status

The project focussed in 2019 on aspects which lead to a general increase in inland waterway transport on the one hand (e.g. consideration of various aspects of sustainability in IWT or emissions of cargo transport in IWT), on the other hand by raising awareness (e.g. advancement for Management, Development and Quality control of existing REWWay offers in the education sector.

In the research assignment "Quality assurance, management and further development of existing REWWay offers in the national and international context", all teaching material packages and platform texts were revised and updated in 2020. In the research responsibility "Knowledge transfer from A to B", the desktop research was completed and expert interviews were conducted. In the third research assignment "Inland navigation in times of crisis", a systematic literature search and also expert interviews were conducted. In 2020, the works in the research assignment "Emissions of freight transport on waterways" was completed. The physically planned "Transport School Labs" were held virtually in 2020 due to the COVID-19 crisis.
