Due to the floods in June 2013, seepage water leaks, softening and subsidence occurred at the Marchfeld protection dam and at the backwater dams. As part of the project "Flood Protection Danube - Marchfeld Protection Dam", the affected dams are being rehabilitated according to the state of the art and raised in sections. In addition, the protective structures east of Vienna near Hainburg and Wolfsthal on the right bank of the Danube are also being renewed. The total length of the flood protection facilities affected is approx. 67 kilometres.
