Project objective

The former stone transport ship Negrelli was converted into a floating information platform and has been travelling on the Austrian Danube since autumn 2007 to provide on-site information about the activities of the waterway company, the potential of the Danube waterway and the diversity of the Danube ecosystem.

The exhibition is designed in German and English and includes stations on the following topics:

  • The Danube - a river through space and time - interactive installation
  • The Danube as an economic area - the Danube as a source of energy, trade route, source of drinking water and tourist region
  • Danube habitat - getting to know typical landscapes with their animals and plants
  • European waterway - everything about the Danube waterway from its source to its mouth
  • Transport potential of the inland waterway - the transport capacity of the
  • transport capacity of inland waterway vessels and possible positive effects on the management of traffic volumes in the years to come
  • Inland navigation as a means of transport - the ship in comparison to rail and truck - test knowledge in a quiz
  • The viadonau company - a modern waterway company introduces itself
  • Efficient logistics - modern and future-oriented logistics concepts rely on the environmentally friendly inland vessel
  • DoRIS - the navigation information system DoRIS - an Austrian development - experience it interactively
  • Lock operation - learn about modern lock management and operate a lock yourself using a computer game
  • Floods - effects and protective measures in Austria
  • Renaturation - current hydraulic engineering projects give the Danube back its original habitat
  • Pilot project Bad-Deutsch Altenburg - an international showcase project combines the interests of the Danube Floodplain National Park and those of navigation
