Challenges
Danube navigation is on the move, both in terms of technological developments (e.g. new propulsion systems, new RIS services) and application areas for logistics services (e.g. new categories of goods). Legal regulations should comply with these developments and therefore need to be kept up to date in a continuous process. Many legal measures are being developed at EU level and afterwards implemented at national level. In recent years, Austria has chosen a pro-active approach in this matter and was thus able to successfully collaborate in shaping all European and navigation-related policies.
Description of the measure
- Collaborate in shaping legislative instruments (Directives, Regulations) at European level, further develop and implement them at national level
- Technical requirements for inland vessels
- RIS Directive
- Dangerous goods Regulation
- Regulations regarding boatmaster´s certificates and personnel
- Regulations regarding emissions of inland vessels
- Traffic regulations (e.g. CEVNI) - Develop national policies further (e.g. “Schifffahrtsanlagenverordnung”)
