What's up in PlasticFreeDanube?

  • 23.10.2017: kick-off event with all project partners at the BOKU Vienna
  • 07.11.2017: on-site visit of the Austrian project partners in the National Park Donau-Auen in order to examine areas of plastic accumulation (incl. collection campaign for plastic waste)
  • First waste collection and sorting campaigns in autumn 2017, incl. cataloguing of the different types of plastic waste (e.g. packaging material, PET bottles etc.)
  • First chemical analyses of the collected waste (regarding contents)
  • 24.01.2018: First project meeting with the strategic partners in Hainburg. Apart from the general presentation of the project, the strategic partner´s expectations regarding the project were discussed, as were the participation opportunities and the possibilities of support by the strategic partners.
  • 24.04.2018: Consortium meeting with all project partners in Slovakia. Excursions to the hydropower plants Čunovo, Dobrohost and Gabčíkovo
  • Further plastic waste sampling and sorting activities in April, May, June and October 2018
  • Participation at Danube Day in Bratislava and Vienna in June 2018
  • 28.06.2018: Attendance at international conference in Budapest with a discussion about the topic "Challenges of plastic waste in the Danube region and beyond"
  • First sorting results of the collected plastic waste in summer 2019
  • 09.10.2018: Consortium & Management Board Meeting at viadonau in Vienna.
  • Participation at events and workshops for kids in Austria and Slovakia in summer and November 2018
  • 03.04.2019: Consortium and Strategic Partner Meeting at PISAS in Bratislava.
  • 25.05.2019: Cycling the Danube: viadonau took part in the bike tour from Vienna to Orth organized by DANUBEparksCONNECTED. During the day, PlasticFreeDanube was presented and cross-border contacts to other projects and initiatives were made.
  • Measurements at hydropower plant Freudenau in summer 2019 with a measurement device especially adopted for macroplastic.
  • Participation at Danube Day in Bratislava and Vienna in June 2019 and at Children’s university in Linz and Vienna in July 2019

The project contributes to the implementation of measure 19. Implement harmonised ship waste management systems of the Action Programme for the Danube 2022.
