01. Proactively implement customer-oriented waterway management

Challenges

In accordance with the Waterway Act (Wasserstraßengesetz), waterway management is one of the core tasks of viadonau. It requires continuous monitoring of the conservation status of the fairway, regular preventive maintenance measures and the rapid transfer of relevant information to the users of the waterway. Since 2011 viadonau is working within the project “Customer-oriented waterway management” to improve these processes in order to perform the tasks swiftly and efficiently. The objective is to further optimise the (mostly internal) processes and to increase planning accuracy and thus customer satisfaction.  It also serves to improve planning reliability of shipments on the Danube. More effective and better targeted dredging and maintenance measures facilitate the timely removal of nautical bottlenecks.

Description of the measure

  • Determine and efficiently implement the defined „Level of Service“ and performance indicators  for the waterway infrastructure
  • Regularly monitor the achievement of relevant parameters for the fairway (2,50 m draught, fairway width in accordance with the defined “Level of Service”)
  • Develop a modern planning, monitoring and management system for waterway maintenance
  • Develop and implement recommendations for proactive maintenance measures
